The Family and
Domestic Services Bureau conducts investigations of juvenile involved
cases, domestic violence, child abuse, neglect reports, sexual assaults
and crimes involving the elderly.
They are assigned
the original cases that have been reported to patrol officers, conduct
a thorough investigation into these complaints and file charges
with the prosecutor where applicable.
Specialty training
is involved with this assignment to include forensic child interviewing
techniques. This training allows officers the ability to conduct
interviews of children who are the victims of sex crimes maintaining
a sensitivity to the child and also to testify as a fact/expert
witness in future court proceedings.
These officers
work very closely with various organizations such as womens
shelters, welfare services, child investigative services and Juvenile
Court.
The children
and Family and Domestic Services Bureau is located out of the Sheriff's
Department proper to maintain a less stressfull environment and
improved security for victims.
