The
bicycle unit is a relatively new tool for the sheriff‚s department.
This unit provides patrol capabilities for area bike paths, larger
events like the county fair and malls in the county. They assist other
police departments with events where a bicycle is a more advantageous
form of transportation at pedestrian events.
The seven (7) officers in the unit completed a forty-hour course that
included stair negotiation, slow movement balance, crown control utilizing
the bicycle, suspect apprehension and maintenance of the bike.
The bicycles are TREK mountain bikes that are specially equipped for
police use. |
