The Sheriff,
by virtue of his office, is responsible for the transfer of convicted
to inmates from his respective county to other institutions within
the State.
This would include:
- Transport
of a convicted person to a receiving authority.
- Deliver the
person to the authority.
- Mentally
ill patients who are committed to a facility by court order.
- Any other
person ordered for transportation by a court order.
The sheriff
must transport a convicted person within 5 days of sentencing, unless
the court order defines another specified time.
