| The Lake County Sheriff Civil Division is made up of two offices with the main office being in Crown Point. The north satellite office is located in Gary. As of December 1, 2008, Crown Point and Gary will be the only Civil Offices open to the public.
The primary function of the Civil Division is to serve summons, subpoenas, evictions, foreign writs, writs of execution, collect delinquent state taxes for the Indiana Department of Revenue, and conduct the Sheriff's Foreclosure Sales of homes.
The Sheriff Sale is held on the first Friday of each month at the Lake County Government Center auditorium. Registration begins at 8:30 AM and ends promptly at 9:30 AM. Anyone interested in a property sale should also fill out a bid sheet. Bid sheets must be turned in the day of the sale prior to 10:000 AM. The foreclosure sale begins at 10:00am.
Officers that are assigned to the Civil Division provide service to the Lake County Superior and Circuit Courts in performing their duties, while also serving civil papers from other jurisdictions.
The Lake County Civil Offices are open Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Lake County Sheriff's Department serves approximately six thousand civil process papers per month.

The fee is $60.00 per defendant/ per address. We only accept Cashiers Checks or Money Orders and they should be payable to the Lake County Sheriff.
We do not accept personal checks.
We need one original and two copies of the summons and two copies of the complaint. The address of the person being served must be on the summons/complaint.
Please send a self-addressed stamped envelope for the affidavit of service that will be returned to you.
