The Neighborhood Watch Program is a highly successful effort that has been in existence for thirty years in cities and counties across America. It provides a unique infrastructure that brings local officials, law enforcement and citizens together to protect our communities.
Although the police attempt to be as proactive as they can in reducing crime, they rely on the people of each community to be their eyes and ears. Community members know what people or vehicles are suspicious in their individual communities. Active participation of neighborhood residents is a critical element in community safety through a willingness to report that suspicious activity to law enforcement and to each other. This is a major step in reclaiming high crime neighborhoods as well as making community members feel more secure and less fearful.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Department Neighborhood Watch Program has various programs available, e.g. child abuse, home security surveys, locks and locking devices, fire safety, CPR, consumer fraud, senior citizen crime prevention and firearms safety.
The success of a Neighborhood Watch Program depends on YOUR participation. So get involved – join a Neighborhood Watch.
