Drug Task Force
The Lake County Drug Task Force investigates organizations and individuals involved in the distribution of narcotics in Lake County. This encompasses undercover operations, executions of arrest warrants, execution of search warrants, and follow up investigations to narcotic related offenses from Patrol officers. The unit is comprised of four Lake County officers, and one officer from the city of Gary.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Gang Unit is comprised of seven Detectives and a HIDTA National Guard Intelligence officer.
Covering all of Lake County, the Gang Unit's primary responsibility is focusing on criminal gang activity, identifying gang members and their territories, investigating drive-by shootings and deterring drug usage and sales by identifying and targeting known drug houses through interdiction.
The Gang Unit works co-operatively with the Lake County Drug Task Force, the Lake County Tactical Team and several Federal Agencies in its on-going gang related investigations.
Since February 2011, the Gang Unit has made over 160 arrests which resulted in the confiscation of numerous weapons, large quantities of drugs and the seizure of thousands of dollars in drug money. The Unit has also identified over 100 new gang members that are a part of the thousands of gang members that currently make up about 250 gangs throughout Lake County, Indiana
In addition to its other duties the Gang Unit conducts numerous seminars to other law enforcement agencies as well as informational classes to crime watch groups, schools, churches and civic groups.

The Lake County Highway Interdiction Unit is comprised of four Lake County Officers who have the primary duty of patrolling, the interstate highways within Lake County.
Over the past several years, the Interdiction Unit has seized $5,916,020 worth of Marijuana from our local highways being transported via hidden compartments in vehicles. They have also seized 268,218.9 gross grams of cocaine with a street value in excess of 26 million dollars.
Already in 2011, the Highway Interdiction Unit has seized over 1 million dollars in suspected drug money and over 60 lbs of marijuana.
