The Lake County Drug Task Force investigates organizations and individuals involved in the distribution of narcotics in Lake County. This encompasses undercover operations, executions of arrest warrants, execution of search warrants, and follow up investigations to narcotic related offenses from Patrol Officers. They are comprised of seven Lake County Officers, and one officer from the cities of Gary, East Chicago and Hammond.

Also under this Task Force is the Lake County Interdiction Unit, which is comprised of four Lake County Officers who have the primary duty of patroling, the interstate highways.

In 2003, the Lake County Drug Task Force executed 58 search warrants, effected 224 arrests for narcotic related offenses, removed 50 weapons from the streets and seized in excess of $456,000 in currency from drug trafficking offenders. The street value of the drugs confiscated was $9,630,350.

The Interdiction Unit has seized $5,916,020 worth of Marijuana from our local highways being transported via hidden compartments in vehicles. They have also seized 268,218.9 gross grams of cocaine with a street value in
excess of 26 million dollars.
