The
Lake County Sheriffs Department Law Enforcement Explorer program
was established in April of 1977. The program is chartered through
the Learning for Life division of the Boy Scouts of America under
the direct command of the Lake County Sheriffs Department.
The
Explorer program is for boys and girls who are between the ages
of 15 through 20. Law Enforcement exploring is a youth development
program that is centered on law enforcement careers.
The
Explorers are familiarized with all facets of law enforcement through
the classroom as well as hands-on training. The curriculum includes
basic patrol techniques, self-defense, report writing, accident
investigation and traffic control to name a few. Explorers are also
trained in first aid and certified in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation.
They
are exposed to several divisions within the department including
Investigations, Family Services, Bureau of Identification, Crime
Lab, Aviation, Marine, Patrol and Traffic.
Our
Explorers assist throughout the year with community events like
the Lake County Fair, ORAK Shrine Circus, Boy Scout Jamboree, parades
and festivals. They assist with traffic, patrol, lost and found
and other duties specified by police officers at the events.
Explorers
meet every Thursday at the Sheriffs department from 7:00 pm
to 9:00 pm.
