Today,
more that ever, law enforcement agencies need guidance, counseling
and assistance to officers, their families and their communities.
No one is confronted with more situations that demoralize and create
emotional, mental and spiritual burdens that are the law enforcement
officer, The burden also affects the officers family.
An officer's own clergy person or religious advisor, although trained
in the ministry, is not necessarily abreast of the problems of the
police officer. In such cases a police chaplain can listen to with
empathy, advise calmly, and officer assistance where appropriate.
On call twenty-four hours a day, the law enforcement stands ready
to respond, not only to the officer and his family, but a victim as
well. The chaplains pride themselves on the service they provide when
an incident occurs where their presence is needed and requested.
Currently there are twelve chaplains providing services to the Lake
County Sheriffs Department. All are ordained or licensed and
receive training through the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, Plainfield,
Indiana, and the International Conference of Police Chaplains, Destin,
Florida. |
