The
K-9 Unit has been in existence since 1978. Currently there are 9 officers
assigned to the unit with their K-9 partners. These dogs assist the
officers of the department in searching for hidden drugs, suspects
and lost parties. The K-9 units are available on a 24-hour basis to
all area departments in Lake County as well as other state and federal
agencies. The K-9 unit is also able to rappel and deploy from the
Departments helicopter, making them the first air mobile K-9 Unit
in the state.
K-9 handlers make presentations to school children and civic organizations
demonstrating the specific training of their individual animals.
Officers maintain their own dogs and keep them at home as a family
pet during their off-duty time. |
