Bureau of Information (B of I) is the office where the public and other Law Enforcement Agencies would obtain record checks, copies of reports and tow releases. This is also the office where the public would obtain gun permits. The office hours are Monday through Friday (excluding holidays), 8:00 AM – 4:30PM Office telephone numbers are (219) 755-3316 through (219) 755-3319 and fax number is (219) 755-3323.

1. Reports – Copies of Police Reports will cost $5.00

2. Record checks – The public can obtain a record check on themselves only. They must have a photo ID (either a State ID or a valid State driver’s license). The cost is $7.00.

3. Vehicle tow releases – Vehicles towed by the Lake County Sheriff’s Department will be released to the owner of the vehicle, when they prove ownership with a title or vehicle registration. They must present a photo ID (either a State ID or a valid State driver’s license)

4. Gun permit – The public can apply for a gun permit through our department if they live in the unincorporated area of Lake County Indiana. They must bring in a valid Indiana State driver’s license, a Money Order for $15.00 and $10.00 in cash. Applications for gun permits must be processed before 3:00 PM.
