LAKE
COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT'S 911 CENTER
For EMERGENCY ONLY calls, dial 911.
For NON-EMERGENCY calls, please dial 755-3333.
The
Lake County Sheriff's 911 Center is staffed seven days a week, twenty-four
hours a day, with trained, State-certified personnel.
The Lake County Sheriff's 911 Center is currently in the process
of installing a new Motorola Gold Series Radio System. This state-of-the-art
system will bring communications within the Sheriff's Department
far above the average police radio system, and will better serve
the general public.
This new radio technology will allow the 911 operators to know who
is calling on the radio with a specialized ID which is programmed
into all the County radios. In August 1999, Lake County went through
a full 911 upgrade with all new equipment, including new computers,
telephones, and software. The new system allows police radio operators
to know who is calling the 911 centers; a display screen shows name,
address, phone number, police, fire, and ambulance service.
Phase-one 911 Cellular Operation has also been initiated. We are
currently receiving 911 calls from three Cellular companies, (Cellular
One, Sprint PCS, and Primeco). In the very near future, we will
be receiving 911 calls from five more. The 911 Cellular service
will now allow callers to dial 911 on their cellular phone(s). As
the signal is received, the tower then transfers the call to the
respective police agency where their signal tower is located.
The Lake County Sheriff's 911 Center is responsible for receiving
incoming calls of service, 911 calls, cellular 911 calls, in addition
to maintaining all restraining orders in Lake County, as well as
the dispatching of several police, fire, EMS agencies and the Coroner's
Office.
This is the division that processes incoming calls for emergency
services. On an average they process 4,900 incoming calls, dispatch
1,500 calls to units monthly as well as handle in-house wanted person
and data checks such as driver's license information and car registration.
